Jump racing returns to Hereford on 13 October, Come From Away plays the Courtyard, the Mysteries fill the cathedral and fireworks follow on 7 November.

Hereford’s jump racing season opens on Tuesday 13 October, and from there the city’s diary runs straight through half term to the St Michael’s Hospice fireworks at the racecourse on Saturday 7 November. In between, the Courtyard has Come From Away in its main house for a week, the cathedral stages the Hereford Mysteries across two nights, and Hereford FC play three league games at Edgar Street.

  • Lindisfarne, Friday 2 October, 7.30pm, The Courtyard. £36. The Tyneside band that mixed mandolin and fiddle into electric blues (The Courtyard).
  • Afternoon Music, Saturday 3 October, 3.15pm to 3.45pm, Hereford Cathedral. Free, with a retiring collection. Assistant organist Peter Dyke plays a half-hour recital on the Father Willis organ (Hereford Cathedral).
  • An Afternoon with Monty Don, in conversation with Rob Penn, Saturday 3 October, 4pm, Dore Abbey, Abbeydore, HR2 0AA. £35, including a raffle ticket. Monty Don talks about gardening and farming in Herefordshire and the Black Mountains, in aid of the Friends of Dore Abbey; the Courtyard, which sells the tickets, was showing “last few tickets” (The Courtyard).
  • Opera Boys, starring Paul Potts, Sunday 4 October, 7.30pm, The Courtyard. £36 to £74. The group’s final tour, with the first winner of Britain’s Got Talent (The Courtyard).

The Bible story from Genesis to Revelation staged in the nave, directed by Canon James Pacey with the recorded voice of Sir David Suchet, and suitable from age 10 (Hereford Cathedral).

Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November. Hereford City Council, which runs the city’s civic service, says it is held on the Sunday nearest 11 November, but it had not published 2026 times when we checked, so it is not listed here yet. The Christmas season has its own pages: the Christmas lights switch-on, the Christmas market and Cinderella at the Courtyard.

Regular events

  • Hereford retail street market, every Wednesday and Saturday in High Town, run by Herefordshire Council (Herefordshire Council).
  • Hereford parkrun, every Saturday at 9am. A free timed 5k, two anticlockwise laps of the racecourse, starting behind the Leisure Centre on Holmer Road, HR4 9UD. On-site parking is £1 (parkrun).
  • In Print: 550 Years of Printing in England, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4.30pm, until 10 April 2027, in the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library museum at the cathedral. Normal museum admission; the museum closes for the whole of January 2027 (Hereford Cathedral).

Getting there

The Courtyard and Hereford FC’s stadium are both on Edgar Street, and the Courtyard is about ten minutes’ walk north of High Town. The racecourse is on the A49 and A4103 north of the city.
