We checked 17 independent shops in Hereford, Ledbury and Ross, from Mike Gell's jewellery to Hay Wines, for hours and what they sell. Updated November 2026.
Hereford, Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye have 17 independent shops worth a Christmas shopping trip in 2026, and this guide puts them in one place with opening hours, addresses and what each one sells. Mike Gell’s jewellery gallery on East Street, Printer + Tailor on Widemarsh Street, Hus & Hem and Hay Wines in Ledbury are the names most people land on. We checked every entry against the shop’s own website on 5 November 2026.
We have not shopped at any of these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry says what the shop says it sells, in its own words where we can quote them. The hours below are the shops’ regular hours, not Christmas ones: none had published festive hours when we checked. Small shops often change their hours close to Christmas, so check before a special trip.
Dates for the Christmas shopping diary
Sunday 22 November: Hereford lights switch-on in High Town, free, from 3.15pm. Details on our Hereford lights page. Ledbury switches on its lights the same day; see our Ledbury lights page.
Sunday 29 November: Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre, 11am to 5pm, with the lights on at 4.30pm. Details on our Ross-on-Wye Christmas page.

Saturday 12 December: Leominster Victorian Street Market in Corn Square and Broad Street. Details on our Leominster market page.
Saturday 19 December: Hereford Cathedral Christmas Fair, 9.30am to 4pm. Our cathedral at Christmas page has the services too.

How we chose
We started with the shops Visit Herefordshire lists in its independent shopping guide to Hereford and Ledbury, added independents from OpenStreetMap and the Ross-on-Wye town council’s shop list, kept the ones that publish their own website, and checked each on that website on 5 November 2026. Chains are left out. Tinsmiths in Ledbury is left out only because its website could not be read when we checked; many Ross-on-Wye shops publish no hours online, and we will add them when they do. Run a place that should be here, or spot something that has changed? Email newsdesk@herefordtoday.co.uk. Taken a good photograph of any of these places? Email it to newsdesk@herefordtoday.co.uk and we will add it with your name as the credit.
