We checked eight ice rinks near Hereford, from IceQuest in Malvern to Gloucester Quays and Cardiff Castle, for dates and prices. Updated November 2026.
There are eight ice rinks within about 60 miles of Hereford in winter 2026, and this guide puts their dates, prices and session times in one place. We found none in Herefordshire itself, so most people land on IceQuest in Malvern, the nearest and open all year, Winter Glow at the Three Counties Showground, or Gloucester Quays. Every entry was checked on 5 November 2026; where we could not read something first-hand, the entry says so.

Rinks in Malvern and Gloucester
These three are the realistic trip for an afternoon, all within about 30 miles.
1. IceQuest, Spring Lane North
IceQuest calls itself a family venue for indoor activities, with an indoor rink alongside escape rooms and Laser Quest. One price covers every age, and there are lessons and party packages.
It recommends arriving 20 minutes early to be fitted for skates, and that an adult goes on the ice with any child under 6. Seals and penguins are available to push, and the seals can also be sat on.
It has published its timetable only for October and November, so ask about December before you plan around it.
Open Monday to Wednesday 5pm to 6pm; Friday 4.30pm to 5.30pm and 6pm to 7pm; Saturday and Sunday 12.30pm to 1.30pm, 2.30pm to 3.30pm and 4.30pm to 5.30pm, plus 10.30am to 11.30am (October and November timetable)

2. Winter Glow, Three Counties Showground
Winter Glow describes its rink as Worcestershire’s largest indoor ice rink. It is part of a bigger Christmas event with a light trail, crazy golf, a market and Father Christmas, and this year’s new Multi-Pass combines skating, golf and the light trail.
Under-3s cannot skate, and ages 3 to 10 need an adult on the ice. Princess parties run at 11am on the Sundays of December.
Without a car, its closest station is Great Malvern, on the direct line from Hereford, then what it calls an 8-minute taxi ride.
Open 20 November to 31 December, closed 25 and 26 December; Fridays to Sundays until 6 December, then daily; 45-minute sessions
Price adult £8 to £16; child 3 to 16 £6.50 to £13; wheelchair user with one adult to assist £12; adult Multi-Pass £35, child £25; skate hire included

3. Outdoor Ice Rink, Gloucester Quays
An outdoor rink in Orchard Square at the historic docks. Its booking FAQs say skates are included in the ticket and that you can buy on arrival, though they warn that many sessions sell out in advance.
There are toddler sessions for ages 3 to 5 and sensory-friendly sessions with reduced capacity and lower music. Its sources disagree on the first day: the Gloucester Quays page says Friday 20 November and the booking FAQs say 19 November, so check the calendar before aiming for the opening.
Skating is for ages 3 and up.
Open 19 or 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027; session times on the booking calendar
Price adult £15; junior (11 to 16) £13; child (3 to 10) £12; family of four £49; skate aids £5 on the day; cloakroom £2

These are a day out rather than a quick trip, and the drive times are estimates for a clear road.
4. Planet Ice Bristol, Cribbs Causeway
A permanent indoor rink on Merlin Road, and the only rink here we found publishing a Christmas Day session. The booking system shows £11.75 on Tuesday 17 November and £15.40 on Saturday 5 December.
Under-8s must have an adult on the ice, and under-12s must wear gloves. Planet Ice says skate hire is not included, except on its Inclusive Skates, and we could not read the Bristol hire charge, so allow for it.
There was also an online booking fee of 4% when our sister site read it on 4 November.
Open all year; on the dates we checked, Tuesday 17 November 10am to 5pm, Saturday 5 December 11.15am to 4.30pm, Christmas Eve 9.30am to 6pm, Christmas Day 10am to 12pm, Boxing Day 10am to 6pm, New Year's Eve 9.30am to 6pm

Website planet-ice.co.uk/ice-skating
Good for indoor, all year, Christmas Day session, Penguin Club for young children, Inclusive Skate sessions
5. Cotswold Ice Rink, Cotswold Lakes
The longest season of the Christmas rinks here and the lowest top price, with adults, children and teens all paying the same. The rink says it is fully covered and enclosed but not heated, so it asks for warm clothes.
The minimum age on the ice is 4. Sessions are 45 minutes and start on the hour, so aim to arrive 15 to 20 minutes before.
Skate aids are limited, and it recommends buying them in advance. The themed sessions on its site include character, DJ and sensory skating.
Open 19 November 2026 to 17 January 2027; sessions on the booking calendar
Price £4.99 to £9.99, any age, by Super Off-Peak, Off-Peak and Standard; skate aids £4.99

6. Telford Ice Rink, International Way
An all-year rink with a printed weekly timetable, several public skates a day, plus family sessions. Its December programme includes a Christmas jumper weekend on 12 and 13 December with 10% off, Santa skates on selected dates and a family disability Santa skate on Friday 18 December, 5pm to 6pm.
One carer goes free per booking with a carer’s ID. The times below are the normal timetable, and the rink carries a notice about timetable changes, so check before you travel.
Open all year; public skates on Saturday 10.30am to 12pm, 12.30pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 4pm, Sunday 10.30am to 11.45am, 1.30pm to 3pm and 3.30pm to 4.45pm, and most weekdays

7. Ice Skate Birmingham, Centenary Square
The city’s Christmas rink runs from 5 November by its own site, and closes on Christmas Day. Each session lasts 45 minutes and starts on the hour, with skate hire included and free entry for spectators.
Its price page says under-7s must be with an adult. Hereford’s West Midlands Railway line runs through Ledbury, Great Malvern and Worcester to Birmingham, so this one works without a car; see our Christmas trains page.
Open 5 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, closed Christmas Day; hourly sessions from 11am
Price adult £11.50 off-peak, £14 peak; junior (12 and under) £10.50, £12; student £11, £12.50; family of four £40, £45; penguin aid £4.50, £5

8. Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland, Cardiff Castle
A main rink and a smaller novice rink, both undercover, and an open-air Ice Walk for confident skaters, in the castle grounds. Entry to the site is free and you pay for what you do.
There is no box office: skating must be booked online, and Visit Cardiff warns that busy sessions sell out. There is no parking at the castle, only the city car parks, so the direct Transport for Wales train from Hereford is worth a look.
Phones are not allowed on the ice, and under-3s cannot skate. The ticket site turned away our automated check, so we have no price to give you.
Open 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, closed 25 and 26 December; 1pm to 10pm most November weekdays, 11am to 10pm at weekends and from 21 December; Christmas Eve to 7.30pm; 1 and 2 January to 8pm; 3 January to 6.30pm

A little further
Vindico Arena in Cardiff Bay is about 60 miles away and has an Olympic-sized rink. Its November weekend public skates run from 11.45am and 2pm for ages 3 and up, and skate hire is available. We could not read a current public price, but the rink says pre-booking online saves £2.

How we chose
This list covers the rinks open to the public this winter within about 60 miles by road of Hereford, because nothing closer than Malvern is running. Dates and prices come from each rink’s own site or booking system on 5 November 2026, and a few details were carried from reads our sister sites made that week. Prices can change, so confirm them when you book. Run a place that should be here, or spot something that has changed? Email newsdesk@herefordtoday.co.uk. Taken a good photograph of any of these places? Email it to newsdesk@herefordtoday.co.uk and we will add it with your name as the credit.
