Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Hereford's parade and service is at the war memorial in St Peter's Square; last year it began at 11am. What is confirmed.
Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Hereford marks it with a civic parade and service at the war memorial in St Peter’s Square, run by Hereford City Council and led by the Mayor of Hereford. Last year’s service started at 11am, and anyone can go: there is no ticket and no charge.
Is it on this year? The council has not published its 2026 notice yet. We checked its website on 4 October and its events calendar has nothing listed after 2025. But the council’s own page on civic ceremonies says Remembrance Day “takes place on the nearest Sunday to the 11th of November” every year, and in 2026 that is Sunday 8 November. Expect the same shape as last year; we will add the 2026 times here as soon as the council posts them.
What happened last year
Hereford City Council’s listing for the Annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service on Sunday 9 November 2025 said:
- Time: 11am
- Place: the War Memorial, St Peter’s Square, Hereford
- Who parades: local veterans’ organisations, cadet forces, the emergency services and community groups, with wreaths laid at the memorial
- For the public: “Please gather in St. Peter’s Square ahead of the 11am service to observe the two minutes’ silence”
The council’s civic ceremonies page adds that the first wreath is laid by the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, or a Deputy Lieutenant, and the second by the Mayor. Since May 2026 the mayor is Cllr Cat Hornsey.

At the cathedral
Hereford Cathedral has not yet put its 2026 Remembrance services on its website. Last year it published a Remembrance week programme:
- The Royal British Legion Field of Remembrance in the Lady Arbour, open to visit from Tuesday 4 to Wednesday 12 November 2025
- A Solemn Requiem for the Fallen and Act of Remembrance, Sunday 9 November at 10am, an hour before the civic service at the war memorial
- The outside of the cathedral was lit red for the week
One thing is already listed for 2026: Afternoon Music with Peter Dyke, the cathedral’s assistant organist, on Saturday 7 November. It is free, with a retiring collection. In 2025 his November recital was themed “In memoriam” for Remembrance; the 2026 listing has no programme yet.
Getting there and parking
St Peter’s Square is at the eastern end of the city centre, by Shire Hall and St Peter’s Church, a short walk from High Town. Buses use the stops around the square. Neither the council nor the bus operators have published any 2026 road closures or diversions for the parade yet; we will add them here when they are, and they will also appear on our Hereford roadworks and travel page.
For city centre car parks, tariffs and free periods, see our parking in Hereford page. The cathedral is a short walk from the war memorial if you plan to go to both services.
The weekend before
The St Michael’s Hospice fireworks run at Hereford Racecourse the night before, on Saturday 7 November. Our Hereford fireworks page has the times and prices, and the What’s On in Hereford this month page has everything else on that weekend.
