Leigh Nicol, who started her football career in the youth side at Celtic, was the victim of a iCloud hack in 2014 which saw multimedia files get taken from her phone and put on an X-rated website

Ex-Celtic star Leigh Nicol shared online abuse she suffered following the leak of a sex tape.

The women’s football star, currently playing at Crystal Palace, was the subject of an iCloud breach in 2019.

Multimedia files from her phone dating back to 2014, when she was 18 years old, were taken and posted onto X-rated websites.

And Nicol has now shared some of the online abuse she suffered following the leak with a range of screenshots.

Writing on her Twitter account, the 25-year-old said: “I keep these to myself, because I don’t want kids on my profiles seeing these & I also don’t want kids not to be able to follow me.

“But, here’s my own personal experiences in the last few days as a small reason why change needs to happen for a safer space.”

Writing a longer message on her Instagram channel, Nicol added: “This used to cause extreme distress, but now it’s part of my day to day life, and one that I don’t blink an eye lid to anymore.

“Enough is enough. For our black friends, and those receiving abuse for how they look, perform, live their lives, and quite simply- breathing.”

Nicole took a year away from football in 2019 due to the impact of the leak on her life, detailing how the issue caused mental health problems in her life.

She told Sky Sports: “I was seen as the one person people knew who had no problems. I was just Leigh, the happiest person they knew.

“Even if you met me now you would say I was a happy soul. You would not know that I was broken.

“Football has been the key to my recovery.

“The damage is done for me so this is about the next generation. I cannot change it alone but if I can raise awareness to stop it happening to others then that is what I want to do.”
