Netflix has announced an all-star lineup for Rapman’s explosive new superhero drama Supacell which begins filming next week.

The Netflix series brings together actors from popular shows like Hollyoaks, Top Boy, and Doctor Who.

Supacell follows five black South Londoners who unexpectedly develop superpowers.

Tosin Cole will lead the six-episode series.

The British actor is best known for playing Doctor Who companions Ryan Sinclair from 2018 to 2001.

TV fans might also recognize Tosin as Neil Cooper from Hollyoaks and Sol Levi from Eastenders: E20. He also played Lt. Bastian in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to Deadline, his character Michael Lasaki is a “van driver, an everyday working man, who’s deep in love” with Dionne, played by Adebayo Adedayo.

Adebayo, 33, is best known for playing Rachel Hargreeves in BBC’s The Responder.

The plot will see Michael band together with this group of unlikely superheroes to save Dionne.

Netflix has announced several more cast members who’ll be starring alongside Tosin and Adebayo and could make up this superhero squad, though the details of their characters are being kept under wraps for the time being.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom alum Eric Kofi Abrefa is just one of the all-star names on that list. His previous credits include Humans and Black Mafia Family, and he also worked with Rapman in the 2019 musical crime drama film Blue Story.

Giacomo Mancini (Top Boy), Nadine Mills (Sliced), Calvin Demba (Hollyoaks), Josh Tedeku (Moonhaven), and Rayxia Ojo (Call the Midwife) will also appear in the upcoming drama series.

Supacell is helmed by British rapper, actor, and director Rapman — whose real name is Andrew Onwubolu — who will be the series showrunner and director.

Behind the camera, Rapman is joined by Anna Ferguson and Steve Searle, who will serve as Executive Producers of the series.

Rapman will also share his directorial duties with Dreaming Whilst Black’s Sebastian Theil, who will direct three of the six episodes.

Revealing more about the upcoming series, Rapman explained that the lead characters are “ordinary people who wear their everyday clothes and grow over time.”

He added: “Put it this way: we’ve got all the powers you can get in Marvel, and they come to South London.”

  • The best thrillers on Netflix
  • The most terrifying horrors on Netflix
  • The best true crime series on Netflix

This new setting means it’s going to be unlike any other superhero drama out there. And don’t expect to see superheroes in capes flying around right off the bat.

“As much as I love Marvel and DC, you know it’s going to work out in the end but in our story you just don’t know what’s going to happen because it’s a grounded superpowers show. They are hero characters, but they’re all very flawed,” Rapman concluded.
