Heavy rain and fears of flooding tomorrow after Met Office issues weather warning

A yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for parts of England, Wales, and Scotland tomorrow.

The Met Office said that ‘flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible’, while spray on the roads could also make driving difficult.

A warning runs from midnight to 2pm on November 15.

The Met Office said: ‘A band of rain will move east across southern parts of England and Wales during Tuesday morning.

‘Some of the rain will be heavy, with 15-30 mm of rain falling widely and as much as 40-50 mm over parts of Dartmoor and south facing high ground of southern Wales and the Marches and parts of southern England.’

A separate warning for the same time period covers South Wales from Carmarthen to Monmouth, almost reaching Gloucester over the border with England.

Later on, another rain warning from 12pm to 9pm tomorrow covers an area of the southern highlands in western Scotland between Perth and Aberdeen.

It comes after much of the country awoke to heavy fog this morning.

Dozens of UK flights were cancelled due to low visibility, with Heathrow saying the rate at which planes could take off and land was reduced.

British Airways cancelled 15 departures from Heathrow, which were all to domestic and short-haul destinations.

The airline said in a statement: ‘Like other airlines, we are experiencing some disruption to our London Heathrow services this morning due to fog.

‘We apologise to customers and are doing everything we can to get them on their way as quickly as possible.’

Another airport, London City, began cancelling flights on Sunday afternoon, with 23 departures scrapped.

Disruption from fog continued into Monday, with 30 departing flights cancelled.

The Met Office said the outlook for Wednesday to Friday was going to see more wet weather.

I twill be ‘unsettled and often windy with showers or longer spells of rain all areas, though some drier interludes for many too,’ they said. ‘Gales or severe gales in the far northeast. Feeling colder.’
